Shakti of Unbreakable Will: The Inspiring Story of Sheetal Devi
Navratri is a celebration of the forms of Shakti. Shakti means strength. Shakti means courage. Shakti means determination. Shakti means the power to face and win against challenges. The story of Sheetal Devi, India’s para archer shows the Shakti of Unbreakable Will.
Sheetal Devi was born without arms. She did not let her situation decide how far she could go. Her path from a girl in Jammu and Kashmir, to a para-archery champion is a story of courage. It is a story of adaptability. It is a story of determination.
Discovering a New Path
Sheetal came into the world in the year 2007 in the Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir. She was born with a condition that left her without arms.
As a child she learned to do tasks using her feet and became very independent. Her skill to adjust and manage things became a part of who she was even before she started exploring sports.
In 2022 she got the chance to try para archery at a training camp. What began as something quickly turned into something she really loved.
Creating Her Own Technique
She learned to hold the bow using her feet and use the strength of her body and shoulders to pull the string.
With practice she created a method that let her shoot with precision and face off against archers. Her path proves that sometimes the hardest part is not learning a skill but discovering your way of doing it.
Rising on the International Stage
Sheetal’s progress was very fast. In 2023 she won two gold medals at the Asian Para Games, in Hangzhou. Also won a silver medal at the World Archery Para Championships. Her achievements brought attention to her talent and determination.
At the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games Sheetal competed in the compound event and reached the quarterfinal stage. She later teamed up with Rakesh Kumar in the mixed team event, where the pair won a bronze medal for India.
Becoming a World Champion
Sheetal kept pushing herself after the Paralympics.
In 2025 she reached another goal by winning the gold medal in the women compound competition at the World Archery Para Championships, in Gwangju, South Korea.
She became a world champion because of the qualities that had always helped her—practice, patience, flexibility and a strong determination to improve.
The Shakti of Unbreakable Will
Sheetal Devi’s story shows us that obstacles might change how we move forward. They don’t have to stop us from reaching our dreams.
She didn’t take the path to become an archer. She built her way believed in herself and kept growing stronger, with every struggle.
During Navratri we honour the forms of Shakti. Sheetal Devi is one form. She represents the Shakti of Unbreakable Will. This is the courage to face what seems impossible. It is the determination to find a way. It is the strength to keep going when the path's difficult.
Her journey shows us that limitations may shape our path. An unbreakable will can shape our destiny. The power lies within us. We can rise, even when the world says we cannot. We can move forward even when the way is tough. The strength to keep going is not given. It is chosen. Every step we take with courage becomes part of our story. That is the power of Sheetal Devi. That is the power of Will.
